In 1984, David Byrne performed the song, "Girlfriend Is Better" in an oversized suit – part inspired by the classical Japanese Noh theatre costumes, part as an attempt to "appear bigger" on stage. 

In 2017, Canadian comedian, and a graduate from one of Canada's top universities with really good grades, Nathan Fielder, recounts a funny anecdote on Jimmy Kimmel Live, in which he had accidentally swapped suitcases with another man at the airport, resulting in him attending a friend's wedding in an oversized suit.
